Hair Dye Chemicals Are Dangerous

By Leigh Erin Connealy, M.D.

If you’re one of the millions of Americans who color their hair, you need to read this.

Many of the personal care products sold in this country are highly toxic, or at the very least, untested when it comes to long-term health effects.

In other words, when you color your hair, you’re slathering your head with toxic soup—and sometimes combining it with heat—even though no one knows what the health consequences might be.

What Should Hair Dye Users Know About the Possible Health Risks Associated With Coloring Hair Chemically?

Seven Dangerous Chemicals Commonly Found In Hair Dye

By: Dr. E.C. Gordon

It is thought that around half of all women dye their hair, and it is also becoming increasingly common for men to use hair dye in order to conceal graying areas. However, many of the ingredients found in hair dye can be severely hazardous to the human body, and some of them are even connected with fatalities. These are the seven main chemicals that you should try to avoid if you are thinking of dying your hair.

Hair dyes used by millions of women are linked to chemicals that can cause cancer

Article by Fiona Macrae, http://www.dailymail.co.uk

Hair dyes used by millions of women contain chemicals linked to cancer, British scientists have warned.

They say that both home hair colouring kits and the dyes used at expensive salons pose a potential risk to health.

Writing in a respected scientific journal, they say chemicals in permanent hair dyes can react with tobacco smoke and other pollutants in the air to form one of the most powerful cancer-causing compounds known to man.

Herbal Home Remedies

Article by Anusuya Suresh, www.thehealthsite.com ill about a few decades ago, grey hair was a sign that you had grown older and probably wiser, too. However, in today’s times, grey hair is more likely to be an indication of your stress levels, having nothing much to do with age or wisdom. This greying of hair is a condition that cannot be reversed, but can be effectively concealed by the use of hair colours.

Hair Dyes
Many American women, as well as a small but increasing number of men, use hair dyes. You may have heard rumors about a link between using hair dye and getting cancer. Many studies have looked at hair dyes as a possible risk factor for various types of cancer. Here we will discuss what the research shows so that you can make choices that are comfortable for you.

Dye Techniques

  1. Rinse hair and leave it moist.
  2. Prepare the herbal hair dye by mixing the dye powder with 4 parts of warm water, i.e 50 gm sachet to mix with about 200 cc of warm water.
  3. Stir the mixture until it forms a easily applicable paste (not too thick as to make it difficult to apply or too watery that it starts streaming down the face!!)
  4. Massage the paste into the root of the hair and also apply it to the whole length of the hair (by massaging it into the root we are also nourishing the hair as the herbs are beneficial to the hair follicles.)
  5. When the hair is fully covered with the paste, put on the shower cap. This is to ensure that the moisture due to evaporation from the scalp are trapped, thus enhancing the dye efficiency.
  6. After a minimum of 1 hour preferably 2 or 3 hours, rinse the dyed hair
  7. If you do not mind the "green" smell of the herbs, rinse without shampooing but if you must use only mild shampoo.
  8. The hair will look great and peaks after 24 to 48 hours.
